Rox sweep, close out A’s 3-2.

The weather forecast for Sunday called for cooler temperatures and a chance of rain.  The Rockies stayed red hot, however with German Marquez once again going deep into the game.  Marquez lasted 7-2/3 innings, spreading 5 hits and just one walk over that period.  He gave up two runs on solo shots to Matt Chapman in the fourth and Khris Davis in the seventh.  Another complete, strong performance for Marquez, who notched 8 strikeouts.

Offensively, Ryan McMahon led off the Rockies half of the second with a double, his fifth of the season.  The suddenly hot Tom Murphy followed with a blast to center, scoring two. Charlie Blackmon, Trevor Story and  McMahon all had two hit days as the Rockies mustered eight hits.  McMahon had (2) doubles on the day.

The win gave Colorado the sweep of the series and moved them within a game of the division leading Dodgers.

Up Next is a set with the St Louis Cardinals.  It’s worth noting that Colorado signed Matt Holliday to a minor-league contract.  It will be interesting to see if that becomes meaningful.
