Kelly Smith weighs in on the Denver Broncos final roster.

Ahead of the Denver Broncos preseason game in Washington, our newest contributor breaks down the likely 53-man roster, by position.

Each position has the number of players at the position and the running roster total listed.

Let’s jump right into the list, starting with the Offensive Backfield:

Quarterback (3, 3)

Starter: Case Keenum

Backups: Chad Kelly and Best waiver wire QB available

Comments: The chosen one and the one that worked the hardest. Not a bad combination. I hate to write articles if I have to criticize someone. It’s not my style, so let me just say this: Can we get over the fact that one of The Broncos’ number one draft choices didn’t work out? Does it matter as long as The Broncos have good players? If I hypnotized you before The Bears game and told you that Chad Kelly was our number one draft choice in 2016, you would have said “Not too bad.” Get over it. It doesn’t matter anymore. Now, when I snap my fingers you will wake refreshed…

Running Back (4, 7)

Starter: Royce Freeman

Backups: Devonte Booker, Phillip Lindsay, Dave Williams

Comments: I love Royce Freeman. His toe-out running style reminds me a little of Otis Armstrong. And I’m sorry, De’Angelo Henderson. You are a really good football player, but Phillip Lindsay is the quick little guy this year. Dave Williams will likely be replaced by a waiver wire addition. Just being honest.

Fullback (1, 8)

Starter: Andy Janovich

Backups: Twenty-one other Janos.

Comments: He’s good on special teams, and he’s the only fullback they have. If The Broncos had twenty-two of him they’d have to punt a lot to justify them all. IMHO
