Denver Broncos: First Cuts Announced
The Denver Broncos announced their first round of cuts on Friday afternoon.
A trio of receivers in Bryce Bobo (The former Colorado standout), John Diarse and Mark Chapman were among the cuts reported by Mike Klis of 9News Denver. Not a lot of surprises as the incumbent duo of Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders were locks. They were quickly joined by draft picks DaeSean Hamilton and Courtland Sutton.
A somewhat surprise release from the receiver ranks was Jordan Leslie. Leslie led the receiving corps in catches over the presesason.
Defensive linemen DeShawn Williams, Austin Simmons and DeQuinton Osborne were released by the Broncos. Again, with a deep, deep front-seven, there was little room along the line for anyone to break in.

Linebacker Marcus Rush was among those cut, as was cornerback Michael Hunter.
Offensive linemen Jermiah Poutasi and Austin Fleer were released. The offensive line reserves will be among the most interesting cuts. We’ll see how many linemen Denver uses roster spots for. If past injury issues are any indication, it may benefit to move some of the linemen to the practice squad.
The biggest name and biggest surprise of the first wave of cuts was cornerback Marcus Rios. Denver had put some effort into keeping Rios, the second-year cornerback from UCLA. The Adam Jones signing may have had impact on the Rios release and it may have consequences for Isiaiah McKenzie’s chances at the 53-man roster.
There were not a lot of big names among the 13 announced on Friday but expect some surprises as the cutdown hour approaches on Saturday. There are difficult decisions at running back, receiver, inside linebacker and offensive line to consider. How many and who the Broncos keep at each position will be evident by 2 PM MDT tomorrow.
Until then, the dream is still alive for many young men, let’s hope some dreams come true over the next 24-hours.
