5 Things we Learned from Denver Broncos 27-24 win over Seahawks
Adam Jones Still has Impact.
The signing of Adam Jones before the last preseason game was met with a collective “huh”. There was curiosity at whether Jones’ checkered ‘PacMan’ past would follow him to Denver.
Jones legal troubles earlier in his career are well documented. He’s been mostly off-the-radar, legally since 2008. Most of his trouble stems from altercations in clubs. Married and aging, perhaps those days are fewer and farther between for the volatile star.
There was concern that he had little left to offer of value at his age (Jones will turn 35 on September 30th), an age that is a death sentence for a defensive back. Champ Bailey, for example, played his final season in Denver at 35 and was out of the league after that.
We caught only a glimpse of Jones in the preseason but what we saw was enough that coaches made him part of the 53-man roster.
What we saw on Sunday makes the Jones signing look like another master stroke for a front office that needs wins. Jones had a 37-yard punt return called back in the first quarter. More significantly, he lined up often, outside on Seahawks receivers, leaving Chris Harris Jr. to focus on Tyler Lockett. Jones was solid and fast, ending the game with 2 tackles, 1 pass defended and an interception on the last play of the game.
Jones was a big part of Denver’s defensive presence and his coverage helped pave the way for the six sacks the Broncos put on Wilson.
The veteran seems to “fit” this Denver defense and if the things that created his problems are truly behind him, he is an asset to this team. Words I’d never have imagined would come from me.
