The Colorado Rockies wrapped a successful 2018 season with a playoff appearance.  It was the second year of playoffs for the Rox.

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on the Colorado Rockies.  As a year-ending series, we’re going to take a look at each of the four major professional franchises in the state and try to pick out the most positive stories from the latest season for each.

For the Rockies, there’s been news since the season-ending loss to the Brewers on October 7th.  Nolan Arenado and DJ LeMahieu won Golden Glove awards while Arenado, Trevor Story and German Marquez secured Silver Slugger trophies.

The Rockies have made no move on LeMahieu as a free agent but did sign former Cubs’ 2B Daniel Murphy.  At a quick glance, the move seems odd, Murphy is older and has hit for nearly the exact same average in his career as DJ.  Murphy has more than doubled DJ’s home run production.  Regardless, the move spells the end of LeMahieu in Rockies purple.

Other free agent decisions loom with Adam Ottavino and Gerardo Parra hitting the open market.  Fan favorites Carlos Gonzalez and Matt Holliday are unlikely to return unless Holliday can make a move to first.
