NFL Free Agency: Broncos officially sign Wes Welker

I wrote a short article earlier today about how the Broncos were interested in Wes Welker, and they didn’t waste any time signing him to a two year deal, worth 12 million dollars. What a steal. Six million dollars for a guy whose had 100 receptions in five of the last six seasons is pretty cheap, and with Peyton Manning throwing to him, he’ll keep putting up good numbers.

As someone whose follow the NFL, and especially the Patriots, closely the last two or three years, I understand how great of a relationship Tom Brady and Wes Welker had. There are no quarterback – wide receiver combinations better in the league today, and the only one better I can remember watching in recent years is Manning and Marvin Harrison.

Welker will be a huge compliment to Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker. Thomas is emerging into a top receiver, while Decker is becoming a consistent player, as well. When Thomas is being accompanied, Welker or Decker will be open up neath, or vice versa.

I’m extremely excited for the season to start up and see what Welker brings to the Broncos, and I’m sure it’s going to be a lot. The Patriots will miss Welker, and I’m sure Tom Brady isn’t to thrilled about the fact he took a pay cut, but the team was still unable to sign Welker.
