ESPY Battle to Watch: It’s Von vs. LeBron
Tonight at the ESPYS: Watch Super Bowl MVP Von Miller take on King James himself. I mean, there’s nothing else on anyway.
Yes, it’s Black Wednesday… the slowest day of the annual sports calendar. But it’s also ESPY Awards night, and there is actually one category we’re interested in watching.
The ESPY for Best Championship Performance has 4 nominees: Von Miller of the Broncos, Sidney Crosby of the Penguins, Carli Lloyd of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, and LeBron James of the Cavs.
Let’s be real — the battle is Von vs. LeBron, right?
I mean, people like hockey and I’m sure the women’s national team is very impressive. But these awards are voted on by fans, and the NFL and NBA are dominant.
Will LeBron haters throw their votes to Miller?
Who actually deserves the award, anyway? I love Von, but LeBron did seriously carry that Cavs team to an impressive championship comeback.

The awards show will also feature the Broncos competing in the Best Team category against the champions of 6 other sports leagues.
Maybe LeBron wins the individual contest and the Broncos take home the team award? Doesn’t that happen at the Oscars sometimes, when a director or actor is singled out for a top award, even though his movie didn’t make the cut?
The ESPY Awards stand for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award, but really they started out as ESPN’s lame attempt to create a Sports version of the Oscars.
In the early days it was a cheap programming option to fill time in the slow summer months. Now, the ESPYS are airing on ABC and people actually care — a little bit — about who wins.
Oh yeah, and Peyton Manning will be there accepting something called an Icon award.
But he’s got to share it with Kobe.
