The Denver Broncos reported to training camp today with sky high expectations and a lot of big questions to be answered.

Most of those questions are on the offensive side of the ball, and the battle to replace Peyton Manning is officially on.  Mark Sanchez got the starts with the first team today and performed well, but more on that in a bit.

Perhaps most notable today were the players who weren’t quite ready to go. Specifically DeMarcus Ware and Aqib Talib.

Talib is recovering from an accidental gunshot wound he suffered at a Dallas strip club during the summer.  He was at training camp today, and jogged around a bit in street clothes.  It may be a few weeks before he’s physically ready to play, and he first must be cleared by the NFL due to the incident in Dallas.

For DeMarcus Ware, who is recovering from a back injury, sitting out the start of camp has more to do with staying healthy for the long season ahead.

“If the game was tomorrow, I’d be out there playing.”

Ware told reporters: “If the game was tomorrow, I’d be out there playing.”

“If you do something 12 times, I think that’s enough. This is 12 years for me, and I know what I’m doing,” he continued. “But it’s now all about getting your body ready for the long haul and that’s a 16-game season and getting ready for the postseason.”

Back to the big question — who starts at QB?

“The three guys competing, I feel good about them,” John Elway said today. “Now we’re not talking about Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers. But we’re good enough around them as we saw last year.”

Let’s take a look at the competition…
