VIDEO: The MMQB’s Andy Benoit spotlights the Denver Broncos’ quarterback situation during training camp as Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch are battling to be the number one QB.

The Battle at Quarterback

Mark Sanchez took snaps with the first team today, and the reviews of his performance were largely positive.

“I thought Mark was very sharp in practice,” Kubiak said. “I’ve got to go back and watch film but he just looked… confident.’’

He managed the ball capably and showed the value of going with a veteran starter.

Trevor Siemian had a good start to the day but, unfortunately, threw an interception while working with the second team.

Rookie QB Paxton Lynch, the team’s first pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, ran the third team and threw a few deep passes that were incomplete.  On the positive side, he connected a few times with new Broncos acquisition Marlon Brown.

“Smart players — they know exactly what’s coming the first day,” Kubiak said. “They’ve looked at scripts, they know what’s going on in practice. You can see the difference in  their preparation and all the sudden you’ve got a kid who comes out here and your mind starts wondering and look at older players, you’re watching them and you get a little stage fright so to speak.’’

The Verdict: Expect all three QBs to get a chance with the first team in the days to come, but Sanchez seems likely to win the starting job.  The bigger question may be if he can hang onto it once the season gets rolling.
