The Avalanche are in a tight playoff race of their own, their fate coming down to the final regular-season game!

Exciting times over at Pepsi, with the fervor over the Nuggets and the constant trickle of information from Broncos Country, the Avs have taken a back seat for much of this season.

It’s a shame because they’ve played their best hockey in years.  They currently sit in the eighth spot in the West with two games remaining.  They play tonight at San Jose and then a Saturday home game with the Blues.  A win on Saturday guarantees the Avs a playoff appearance.  Pretty remarkable considering they had one of the all-time worst seasons in NHL history last year.

Not without drama of their own, the Avalanche have lost the services of Semyon Varlamov and Erik Johnson, their got goaltender and defender for the foreseeable future.  True to NHL standards, their respective injuries are vaguely reported.

We are looking forward to covering the Avalanche and legitimate Hart Trophy contender Nathan MacKinnon as they push to the playoffs and beyond!
