The Rox Sweep the Giants!

Kyle Freeland took the mound for the Rockies on Monday, July 2 and gave up a solo blast on the first pitch.  An ominous start but Freeland bounced back nicely, surrendering only one more run over seven innings. A late offensive surge from the Rockies got the very satisfying win over Giants ace Madison Bumgarner.  Offensively, the Rockies looked to Nolan Arenado, Charlie Blackmon and Tom Murphy and the trio came through to secure the 5-2 victory.

Tuesday saw Antonio Senzatela give the Rockies another quality start, surrendering only three hits through seven scoreless innings.  The offense continued it’s rise, dropping eight earned runs on Giants starter Chris Stratton over his 5-2/3 innings.  A first inning shot from Charlie Blackmon got the Rockies rolling on an 8-run explosion.  Nolan Arenado added his league-leading 22nd home run in the 5th, a 3-run jack. The 8-1 victory ensures a series win for Colorado.

Wednesday matched the Rockies Tyler Anderson with San Francisco’s Andrew Suarez and the duo produced a gem.  Anderson went eight scoreless innings, including nine big strikeouts before giving-way to Wade Davis.  Davis closed out the ninth, earned his 25th save, Anderson the win and a rare shutout at Coors Field.  For the Giants, Suarez spread five hits over seven scoreless innings before seeing Chris Ianetta blast one to the concourse in left in the seventh.  That’s all it took for the Rockies to get the win and the sweep.  Three straight spectacular pitching performances carried the Rockies who have developed a more steady offense.
