The Colorado Rapids went to Los Angeles on Tuesday and took on the L.A. Galaxy for a second time, this time on the Galaxy’s home turf.

This is bout two with the L.A. Galaxy in the past three games for the Colorado Rapids.  Game one was taken by the Colorado Rapids with a last-minute goal to give them the 2-1 lead.  It was a great win for the Rapids that they hoped would carry over to this match.

In Tuesday’s match the action didn’t start until the second half.  Both teams had opportunities to score in the first, but the action was given to the goalkeepers as both Tim Howard and David Bingham had amazing saves for the Colorado Rapids and the L.A. Galaxy respectively.

The real action started in the second half with a goal scored for the L.A. Galaxy by Ashley Cole who was assisted by Chris Pontius at approximately the 59 minute mark.  Pontius made a nice pass perfectly placed between two defenders.  Cole turned and put on some speed and popped the ball to the top of the net as Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Tim Howard stepped up out of the goal to challenge.

The Colorado Rapids didn’t sit idle for long and answered with their own goal at approximately the 74 minute of the match.  Édgar Castillo picked up a cross that was cleared out of the center dribbled up on the left side of the box and made a quick left-footer to the far side of the net for the point.

More from Colorado Rapids

Just three minutes later the L.A. Galaxy had the ball back down on the attacking half of the pitch and Sebastian Lletget found himself standing in the perfect spot.  Lletget received the ball and immediately fired at the left side of the goal.  Tim Howard stepped up for the save, but the shot was perfectly curled around to the left and into the back of the net.

Now into desperation time the Rapids turned the tides once again and knocked in another equalizer in the final minutes of the match.   At the 82 minute mark substitute Niki Jackson received the ball from Édgar Castillo, put a move on the defender, and fired.  The ball hits the defender on the ground, pops up and over the goal keeper, and the game is again tied.

The game ended in a draw as neither team could get the go ahead goal in the final minutes.  The Colorado Rapids had to feel good on the plane ride back to Denver.  This draw makes three games undefeated matches in a row and another point for the Colorado Rapids season.  The Rapids come back to L.A. to face the Los Angeles Football Club on Sunday.  The new look Rapids should be a formidable foe.
